TWO BLACKFOOT INDIAN HEADS 1897 Ames Back: 6"h x 6"l Chief Weasel: 7"h x 6"l edition of 100 $900 for the pair
In 1897, Proctor made these two male heads as studies during a visit to the Blackfoot reservation. The Indians were Chief Weasel and Ames Back. Chief Weasel was used for the Indian Warrior, or Indian Chief, that won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition. The two plasters were also on display at The Gorham Co. Founders for an exhibition from October 6-25, 1913. Proctor wrote about the importance of having this model in Paris, because the facial features of Indians were very different from those of Caucasians. Identifying marks: signed A.P. Proctor 1897.
