Proctor’s models for this bronze were a panther caged in his home in Bedford, New York, and a deer that had died at the menagerie in New York City. Small bronzes were cast during his lifetime and can be found handled by various auctions on rare occasions. Identifying marks: signed Proctor (faint, on front); trademark coin (underside).
