The plaster for this statue was a study Proctor created for the four buffalo on the corners of the Q Street Bridge in Washington, D.C. Proctor won the competition to create the Tigers for the Sixteenth Street Bridge in Washington, D.C. and the commissioners were so pleased that they gave him the Q Street commission without considering another artist.
