Bison Keystones
Arlington Memorial Bridge, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. 1935, bronze, 6' h.
The 6-foot high bison keystones are found at the apex of each of the pylons. The committee over seeing Proctor's work on this statue wanted the top of the Buffalo to have ringlets of hair. Proctor could not understand this due to the fact it would be so high no one would ever see them. This statue was worked on while Proctor was the resident sculptor at the American Academy in Rome.
